Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is not something new, of course, it been around for centuries. If you are in pain and need relief you can take advantage of the different type of massages mentioned here.

1. Aromatherapy is called such because one or more scented plant oils are usually used in its practice. One of the most popular is lavender as it is well suited for stress related ailments.

2. Deep Tissue Massage. As the name suggest this has an effect on deeper layers of muscles and their connective tissues and the masseuse will use slow strokes better known as friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. The advantage of this type of treatment is the effect it has on chronically painful and tight muscles, postural problems, repetitive strain, and recovery from injury.

3. Thai massage aligns the energies of the body using gentle pressure on particular points. It also includes compression's and stretches and is somewhat similar to yoga but in these circumstances you don’t actually do anything except go with the flow.

4. Reflexology is sometimes known as foot massage because it involves applying pressure to certain points on the foot. This is because some people believe that the foot corresponds to certain organs and systems so what you do to the foot can affect other parts of the body.

5. Swedish massage. This can help to alleviate muscle pain and stress and has become the most common type of massage in the US. This is because the massage is relaxing and gentle with the masseuse using long strokes, kneading and circular movements using either massage lotion or oils.

6. Shiatsu. This is a Japanese form of massage therapy. The masseuse will use finger pressure in a rhythmic sequence on acupuncture meridians. Each point is held for a number of seconds to improve the flow of energy and assist the body regain balance. Most people say that it is relaxing but firm. The best part is that there is no soreness afterwards.

7. Hot Stone Massage. In this procedure heated smooth heated stones are put on particular in an attempt to loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body. At times, the masseuse may also apply gentle pressure especially for those who have muscle tension.

8. Back Massage. This is self explanatory – The aim is obviously to try and relieve tension in the back possibly caused by lifting heavy objects or just driving for long periods.

9. Sports massage. This is primarily designed for people involved in sports activities but the spin offs of this kind of treatment can benefit all of us, since it helps not only  professional athletes but can help prevent and treat all types of physical injuries.

There are many other kinds of massage therapy aside from those mentioned here but these are the most popular ones.
